Telehealth Counseling Services

I offer telehealth counseling services for individuals, couples, families, and adolescents.    I don't have a specific counseling style.  Some people prefer talking it out.  Some people like a 'mindfulness' approach.  Others find the body-centered approach of Hakomi resonates with them.   Part of us getting to know each other in our counseling sessions is finding the way that works best for you.

What can I expect at my first visit?

At your first visit I'll collect some basic information.  I'll discuss how my sessions usually work, and answer any questions you may have about the process.  We will discuss what brought you to counseling, what your goals are, and any questions you might have.  The first session is a lot about getting to know each other, to see if we 'fit'.  It's incredibly important in counseling that you feel comfortable with your therapist.  Sometimes a therapist and client don't click for a number of reasons, and that's okay!  I want to hear if that's the case, and I'll do what I can to either ease your concerns or help you find a therapist that might suit you better.

How long will I go to counseling?

That question totally depends on you!  Some people have a specific problem they are trying to work through that might only take a few sessions.  Others come for months, even years.  It just depends on what your needs are.

What is Hakomi Therapy?

The best place to learn about Hakomi Therapy is the Hakomi Institute's website.  I completed a two-year Hakomi Training in 2009.

Am I a failure if I can't solve my own problems?

There is an unfortunate stigma that some associate with counseling that keeps people from getting the help they need.   There is nothing negative about being in counseling.  What deciding to go to therapy says is that you are wise enough to know you have thoughts or feelings or situations that you aren't sure how to handle, and brave enough to be willing to do whatever you need to to find your peace

What do you charge for counseling?

My standard fee is $120 per session.  I take credit cards or Paypal and will submit an invoice to you after our session with a link for easy payment. For those that cannot afford the standard fee, I offer a sliding scale that can be discussed during or prior to your first session. At this time I do not take insurance, however will provide you with the necessary information to submit to your insurance for reimbursement if you wish.

Why don’t you take insurance?

While I do not take insurance as a direct form of payment, I can provide the necessary information to you for you to submit your own claim. I am an in-network provider for several agencies, including Anthem, United Health, Cigna, and others. Please understand that for you to submit your sessions to insurance I must provide a 'diagnosis' as part of the information to be submitted.  This diagnosis will become part of your healthcare history, and will be visible when applying for future health insurance, life insurance, etc., so it's important to understand what happens when those claims are submitted.

Should this model serve as a potential barrier, we can discuss a sliding scale fee.
